MILESTONES – MILES DAVIS

The Blueprint of Modern Jazz – A Precursor to Kind of Blue

Released in 1958, “Milestones” is a pivotal album in Miles Davis’s career, marking the first studio recording of his legendary sextet that would soon go on to make Kind of Blue. With a lineup that includes John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley on saxophones, Red Garland (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), and Philly Joe Jones (drums), this album represents a crucial turning point from bebop to modal jazz.

The title track “Milestones” is an early modal experiment that paved the way for the entire genre. From fiery bop workouts like “Dr. Jekyll” to the haunting ballad “Sid’s Ahead”, the album showcases incredible interplay, intuitive solos, and the deep swing that defined this golden era of jazz.
