About Fat Elephant Records

Fat Elephant Records is an independent record and book store rooted in community, culture, and history. Located in the heart of Folsom's Historic District, we specialize in new and used vinyl across all genres, along with CDs, cassettes, and a growing selection of books. We also host regular live music events and community gatherings, making the store a creative hub as much as a retail space.

Our home is a building with deep ties to Folsom's past. Constructed in 1920, the structure originally served as a bank on Sutter Street, during a period when this corner was central to the city's commercial life. A plaque embedded in the sidewalk outside still reads "Original Bank Building - 1920," marking its place in local history.

Much of the building's original character remains. Inside the store is what was once the bank vault, now repurposed as part of our retail space. Just inside the Riley Street entrance, you'll also find the original bank light fixture, still illuminated and in use—an authentic artifact from the building's earliest days.

At Fat Elephant Records, we believe places matter. By preserving and honoring the history of this building, we aim to create a space where the past and present intersect—where music, books, and community continue the legacy of a structure that has served Folsom for more than a century.
